Brush Head Quality Control for Electric Toothbrush OEM/ODM Projects

Injection Molding · Tufting · Assembly · Quality Management · Testing Capability

Brush Head Manufacturing Overview

The brush head is the contact component and the part the end user replaces. It is managed as a controlled component, not an accessory.

Quality here depends on more than appearance. It comes down to the molded part, the bristle specification, tufting consistency, interface dimensions, assembly fit and the records that connect them.

The partner manufacturing base was established in 2013 and operates a facility of more than 17,000 m², with 530+ employees and a 50+ member R&D team. Injection molding, tufting and assembly run within the same operation, so molded part geometry, bristle layout and interface fit are checked against one specification rather than three.

Brush head inspection sits within the broader electric toothbrush quality control process. The wider production scope is covered on our electric toothbrush manufacturing facility page.

Production Flow and Control Points

01 Material Plastic, bristle and packaging materials are checked against approved specifications before production.
02 Molding Components are produced to project-defined geometry, material and color requirements.
03 Tufting Bristles are fixed to the approved layout and tuft pattern.
04 Trimming Trim profile and bristle length are checked against approved specifications.
05 Inspection Dimensions, tufting condition, appearance and cleanliness are checked against defined criteria.
06 Fit Review Fit is checked against the intended handle interface.
07 Packaging Packaging is reviewed for product protection, item identification and shipment handling.

Injection Molding

Brush head components are molded to project-defined geometry, material and color requirements. Molded parts are reviewed for surface condition, structural completeness and key interface features. These determine how the part behaves in tufting and how it seats on the handle.

Where the design calls for separate tuft-hole formation, hole position and geometry fall under dimensional control.

Tufting

Tufting requirements are defined by bristle layout, tuft pattern, brush head design and the approved sample. Consistency here is what keeps appearance repeatable from one batch to the next.

Bristle retention requirements are set according to the brush head design, the tufting method and what the project needs to validate. For verification at product level, see our product testing and reliability support.

Quality Control Points

What is checked during production. Sampling method, acceptance criteria and defect references are set per project rather than applied as fixed rules.

Inspection PointWhat Is ReviewedRisk Addressed
Material conditionIncoming plastic, bristle and packaging material against approved specifications.Material substitution, color variation, loss of traceability.
Molded-part conditionGeometry, surface condition and key interface features.Assembly interference, unstable tufting, visible defects.
Tufting consistencyTuft pattern, spacing and tufting condition across units and batches.Missing or uneven tufts, batch-to-batch variation.
Bristle alignmentTuft direction, arrangement and brush face profile against approved samples.Misaligned tufts, uneven brush face, visual rejection.
Trim profileTrim shape and bristle length against approved specifications.Deviation from the reference sample.
Key dimensionsLength, width, height and connection-end features against approved drawings.Tooling drift, packaging mismatch, handle incompatibility.
Connection fitInsertion, positioning, removal and stability on the intended handle.Loose or tight fit, movement in use, assembly damage.
AppearanceFlash, burrs, scratches, marks, sink or deformation on visible surfaces.Retail rejection, brand presentation issues.
Color consistencyBrush head body, bristle and identification features against color references.Color deviation, mixed batches, incorrect set assembly.
CleanlinessVisible debris, loose filaments and surface contamination before packing.Contamination at packing, inspection failure at receipt.

Dimensional Accuracy and Handle Fit

Dimensional Accuracy

Key dimensions are checked against approved drawings and samples. The focus is the connection end, the overall brush head profile and, where the design uses them, tuft-hole positions. These features drive both tufting quality and handle compatibility.

Dimensional requirements are held at project level. A batch shipped next year is compared against the original reference, not against the last shipment.

Handle Fit Verification

Fit is verified against the handle platform the product is built for: insertion, positioning, removal and stability in use.

Connection geometry and fit requirements should be settled with our electric toothbrush engineering capability team during development, before sample approval.

Quality Records and Traceability

For replacement head programs, records are what allow a repeat order to be checked against the original approved reference.

  • Approved sample control for each brush head configuration
  • Drawing and specification version reference
  • Material lot information for key inputs
  • Production and inspection records maintained during manufacturing
  • Deviation review and follow-up actions

For verification at product level, including handle, motor and reliability requirements, see our product testing and reliability support.

OEM/ODM Brush Head Customization

Buyers define brush head structure, bristle layout, color, packaging and inspection requirements during development. We review them against the intended handle platform, the target market and the brand’s positioning before samples are approved.

Once a sample is approved, that sample and its inspection criteria become the production reference. This is what keeps a customized brush head consistent between the development stage and later batches.

Brush head requirements form part of electric toothbrush OEM/ODM development, from design review through production preparation.

Buyer Evaluation Checklist

Questions worth raising when evaluating a brush head supplier.

Scope for a specific program is confirmed in writing during development.

  • Project start Written brush head specification, drawing version and who confirms acceptance criteria.
  • Sample stage Sample identification, bristle layout reference and the handle platform used for fit review.
  • Pre-production Approved sample retained at the factory, inspection plan and defect reference for visual criteria.
  • Production Inspection records, material lot information and handling of non-conforming output.
  • Shipment Packing configuration, item identification, count verification and packaging condition.
  • Change management Notification process for tooling, material, bristle or process changes.
